I have a novel idea: since the government essentially just bought an insurance company...why can't you require AIG, as part of taking taxpayer dollars to bail them out of their little fiscal and operational drama, to start insuring American's who are uninsurable, in terms of health coverage?
I mean, after all, you and I just bought ourselves and our grandkids an insurance firm! Why not make it work for us?

Hey I have an 86% unrealized loss on one market... not related to AIG, Merryl L or Lehman brothers but between this and the housing market crashing...sucks for any stockholders of any company.
PS. Did you read the article in Consumer Report stating that some companies are offering credit cards to finance healthcare bills? There's a good idea! Let's give desperate people credit cards (vs. fixing healthcare or financial problems w/overspending!)

My employer does that. My employer also considered offering a product that allowed people to charge their FSA expeditures straight onto a card that deducted or charged the item straight to their flexible spending account, rather than requiring them to fill out the claim form and wait for reimbursement, which can take weeks. But ultimately we decided there was no market for this product (meaning, no ROI) and abandoned it.
